Ganesha
Ganesha, the elephant-headed one, is one of the best-known and most widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. He is the son of Shiva (transforming aspect of the Hindu trinity), and Parvati (Divine Shakti: the embodiment of the total energy in the universe), and is known as a protector and remover of obstacles. Ganesha is propitiated prior to the beginning of any new venture.
Ganesha is also know as the Lord of Dharma and Success. Dharma literally translates as "that which uphold or supports", and is defined as the principle, law, or ultimate reality that governs the universe. Dharma also refers to one's individual conduct in conformity with this principle or in other words righteous action or duty. Ganesha is considered the personification of the material universe and he reigns over our beginnings, our changes, our earthly decisions and problems. He is always available when assistance is needed, never aloof and highly responsive to an open heart.
Imagine how the energy of this deity can assist you in your physical life let alone your spiritual path! Ganesha sits at the base of the spine, on the first chakra, waiting to assist in all aspects of knowledge, wisdom, wealth, karma, and Dharma. Through the dedication of the aspirant, Ganesha can lift one from fear and confusion into conscious awareness of right thought, right speech, and right action, as the first chakra is activated. Continued devotion leads the aspirant to a harmonized body, mind, and life generating an unfaltering spiritual path, for Ganesha is always present to grant divine protection and guide with love and care.
Whether you believe in the existence of Ganesha or not, the energy of this concept is incredible to meditate upon. If you would like an outward symbol of Ganesha, Hands of Spirit carries beautiful stone carvings of this most beloved deity.
